Description
Published in 1992, Mostly Harmless is the fifth book in Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, following a darker, multi-dimensional plot line as Arthur Dent settles down on the planet Lamuella as a peaceful sandwich maker, only to have his life upended when Trillian drops off their rebellious teenage daughter, Random. Meanwhile, Ford Prefect discovers that The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has been taken over by a hostile corporate entity working for the Vogons, who create a dangerous, multidimensional "Guide Mark II" designed to destroy Earth across all parallel probability tracks. When Random steals this new Guide and escapes to an alternate Earth, Arthur, Ford, and Trillian race through space and time to intercept her, culminating in a darkly comic and notorious climax that brings a definitive, pessimistic close to the main characters' intersecting timelines.
